Hello world 👋

For the last 9 years I’ve launched products at software orgs ranging from 1-person startups to publicly traded companies, including Kiva, Solar.com, Decarbon, Chegg, and Magoosh.

I’m a “zero to one” tech generalist who thrives in creating compelling user experiences, improving them with experimentation, and uncovering insights that accelerate growth.

I’ll help you 💁

  • Develop your MVP and evolve it into a cross-platform, scalable experience
  • Launch effective go-to-market campaigns that support agile development
  • Optimize your product’s messaging and market positioning via experimentation

My approach 🤓

  1. Refine the product & growth vision
  2. Identify specific objectives & hypotheses
  3. Quantifiably test hypotheses
  4. Iterate, scale, repeat

Portfolio 💼

0 to 5,000 users with Decarbon

decarbon web app

I developed an iOS, Android & web app to production that automatically tracks a user’s carbon emissions and provides personalized recommendations for taking climate action. Decarbon’s grown from 0 to 5,000 users and has been featured on ABC news.

Decarbon is built with Flutter and Firebase, and uses Stripe, Patch Climate, Plaid, Sendgrid, and other services.

1,100+ NPS promoters of grad school admissions support

magoosh graduate admissions support

After two years as Growth Marketing Manager at Berkeley-based ed tech company Magoosh, I rejoined the team as a freelance consultant to support the go-to-market of a brand new product that’s adjacent to the company’s core GRE and GMAT test prep offerings: online graduate admissions support.

As the sole marketing resource, I worked closely with the Admissions product managers to understand student needs, optimize purchases, develop new features, and ultimately acheive the NPS metrics the team had sought to scale their investment in this new product.

“Kyle is both incredibly efficient and remarkably multidimensional in his talents. In his work for my team he tackled with speed and care projects across marketing, design, website and product development, and more while always producing stellar work.

He is an active collaborator asking questions, raising concerns, and bringing new ideas to the table that helped spark success and creativity. I greatly appreciated the way Kyle worked within the fast pace of our growing products while always keeping an eye towards prioritization to cut through the noise.

Kyle’s a delight to work with and an asset to any team; I’m looking forward to working with him in the future and would recommend him to anyone looking for a detail oriented, multifaceted, creative problem solver and thinker.”

– Jen Jurgens, Sr. Product Manager of Graduate Admissions

Software MVP and $200K raised to launch the refill revolution

tainr

I developed a touchscreen ordering interface for the Los Angeles startup TAINR. This interface is embedded into bulk-food dispensing kiosks and utilizes ReactJS, Firebase, and Stripe.

I also helped the company raise over $200K via the crowdfunding platform Wefunder.

“Kyle is like a Swiss Army knife for your company. Everything form marketing, website building, project management, MVP strategy and even coding, he has it all under his set of tools / skills.

And the best part is that he gets it done in a productive and transparent manner – Voicing challenges, and bringing additional resources when needed to get the job done! It is truly a pleasure to work with him and have him involved in different levels of whatever project you are working on.

I strive to learn a bit everyday from him on his management methods and approach to tackling tasks. He’s also a great team player and always brings the best attitude to every meeting.”

– Camilo Giraldo, Co-Founder & CEO

Turbocharging Kiva’s product marketing loop

kiva

I created crowdlending non-profit Kiva’s first product marketing process, bridging the gap between Product and Marketing departments. This accelerated the pace of experimentation and learning for both teams and led to more loans getting funded on the platform.

“Kyle was brought on to consult on some Product Marketing work at Kiva. Even though it was a brand new function, he dove right in, building trust and strong working rapport with his Product and channel marketing counterparts.

In a relatively short amount of time, he was creating and running iterative tests to help inform our product build. Kyle is scrappy, hard-working, and adds valuable input to every discussion he’s a part of. He’s incredibly easy to work with and a joy to have on the team!”

– Tiffany Fong, Director of Growth Marketing

Accelerating Solar.com beyond $2M annual revenue

solar.com

I helped to establish Solar.com as a leading authority for going solar. I used keyword research, backlink generation, and site optimization to obtain 55% quarter over quarter growth in organic search traffic. I executed 40% year over year growth in lead volume with conversion-optimized campaigns, utilizing digital, radio, print, customer referrals, email lifecycle nurturing, and affiliate partnerships.

FAQs 🧐

How do we work together?

Let’s start with a short conversation to get to know each other.

We can discuss the potential project and determine if my experience can support your team’s objectives.

If we think we’re a good fit to work together, we can use my standard consulting agreement or work out an ageement that you prefer. I’ll then track my work and provide bi-weekly reports alongside my invoices.

How long will you work with us?

As long as we’re vibin’. I typically work on an ongoing, hourly basis with my clients until it no longer makes sense to. I’d recommend we work together for at least a few months in order for us to move beyond the exploration phase of a new project and into real value provided.

How many hours per week will you work with us?

I work 0-30 hours per week for each of my clients. This varies widely as the needs and timelines for startups and new products can fluctuate week to week.

What if our project changes?

I’m flexible! Growth requires change, and I can accommodate major strategy pivots. If it ever gets to a point where the scope of work has changed to a degree that warrants a discussion, I’ll let you know.
